New Music Alert! The songs are sounding amazing. This is all new music and with energy and melody going strong. What a great big busy month of March!
Scott Dailey and I have been recording in several studios including the home studio and with Pearl Sound’s Chuck Alkazian in Canton, Michigan. Lauren Johnson is adding drums, Ron Wolf is adding percussion, and Chris Spooner will be tracking bass next week on several new songs.
I’ve also been recording a beautiful song that violinist and singer Erin Zindle and I wrote, cutting tracks at Big Sky in Ann Arbor, Michigan with Geoff Michael.
We are also nominated for several new 2023 Detroit Music Awards – thank you.
Many friends and fans have been waiting for new music. There will be new video, and with many new shows coming up, we will have the full band on some of those, too. I’m almost ready to do a sneak preview of some of the new music. We will be releasing the first single on all digital platforms. More shortly, because we have some very exciting new shows to talk about, too, including a great one in April at the all new Berkley Coffee with singer/songwriter and guitarist Mary McGuire.
Shout to the stars above for a dance in the twilight New Moon soon to be the cold ground glorious splitting its heart into spring. x
It’s snowing hard and there’s good news that the new album is coming out this year! Last year had marvelous shows and my December blog named a few of the great ones. This year, we’ve got some gems coming up. In fact, we have some bookings already for 2024, not just 2023 (!) I’m also doing more Book Event shows for my book “Detroit (Maiden Energy).”
We’ve got many new songs and Scott Dailey and I have been writing and recording music that has taken us on a wild, fantastic journey. Also, this year is another Orchide Records Detroit release of my former band Detroit Energy Asylum. It’s a new album of some of my never-heard before songs and a maze of energy music.
As mentioned last month, good news here, too, with Los Angeles’ famous Music Connection magazine naming the Carolyn Striho/Scott Dailey duo as one of the Hot 100 Live Unsigned Bands nationally for 2023 as well! https://www.musicconnection.com/hot-100-live-unsigned-artists-bands-2/
Also, I’ve been included in a new book, “Hit Girls: Hit Girls: Women in Punk in the USA 1978-1983” “ by Jen Larson which spotlights female musicians who were as important to the early punk scene as male musicians. I’m featured in five pages also with my band The Cubes and several other Detroit bands, as well as great bands from all through the U.S., and honored to have contributed. It’s a reminder that this important music started from the soul of so many young teenage girls like me. Hit Girls is at https://bookshop.org/p/books/hit-girls-women-of-punk-in-the-usa-1975-1983-jen-b-larson/17273216?ean=9781627311236
This is a short blog as we’re readying so much material and working hard on it. Can’t wait for you to hear our new music, so please stay tuned.
Merry holidays…it’s cold outside! Many people are trying hard to stay well and do the best they can! So please be kind and patient. It’s been a super busy year with new music we’re writing and recording. Scott Dailey and I and the band hope to have a new album and music for Spring 2023. We have had music on several compilations in the last several years, my book “Detroit (Maiden Energy) book came out, and during covid, I recorded the Audiobook for Detroit Maiden Energy. What an honor to be back on the First Ballot of the Grammy Awards 2022 for Best Spoken Word album, too!
In 2022, we had great shows with Don Was and The Concert of Colors at the Detroit Institute of Arts, shows up north including Cheboygan’s Lark Theatre, Lake Orion’s 20 Front Street, Detroit’s Cadieux Café with The Orbitsuns and much more including more airplay on many stations. We also had several more Detroit Music Award nominations. Then there was exciting national news as L.A’s Music Connection named us as one of the country’s Top 100 Live Unsigned Acts! Thanks to our fans for the support! https://www.musicconnection.com/hot-100-live-unsigned-artists-bands-2/

We performed at the Detroit Free Press Marathon in October to cheer the runners in October on a big morning in Detroit and Windsor, Canada. And I performed at a gorgeous wedding in Detroit in September.
The new recordings are coming soon as I’m working on 4 more songs to add to the album and finishing storyboarding a new video. Then there is the book and some new readings and working on another book. My songs have been on 3 compilation albums in the last 4 years in the U.S. and the U.K., and “Afterthought” was also included in a feature film, “Poor Greg Drowning.”
Upcoming is the single release will be coming for “I Will Rise,” then the EP/album with another couple of surprise releases with Erin Zindle (from Erin & The Ragbirds) and a new Striho/Detroit Energy Asylum release on Orchide Records – stay tuned and thanks for being patient!
